PASUWA THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE WARRIORS JOB

By Evans Dakwa

The African Cup of Nations Qualifiers for 2017 are scheduled to start in June, less than two months away and our beloved Warriors still do not have a substantive gaffer. Still smarting from the shocking but inevitable expulsion from the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, the football family in the country will no doubt like to use the 2017 qualifiers to redeem lost pride from years of successive failures on the pitch aided by a bungling leadership.

Football fans and analyst alike as usullal have been debating as to the right man for the job, to redeem the country from the quagmire that its fooball finds itself in. The firm favourite to land the job is no doubt Kallisto Pasuwa, a man who is no doubt the man of the moment after guiding the Young Warriors to a memorable 2-1 aggregate win over the much fancied Young Indomitable lions to qualify for the All Africa Games scheduled to take part in Congo later in the year, for the first time since 1995 when the country partook in the competition by virtue of being the host nation.

Pasuwa has no doubt endeared himself to Zimbabwean soccer fans with a rather unexpected win over the much fancied West African soccer powerhouse albeit preceded by tumultuous preparations that saw many Premier Soccer League teams refusing to release their players for the fixture that fell outside the FIFA calendar. Coming on the backdrop of guiding current Premier Soccer League champions to four consecutive league championships, the aggregate win over Cameroon has put Pasuwa ahead of the pack and it will not be a surprise if the Young Warriors coach is given the green light to take charge for the AFCON campaign.

Existing football conditions in the country are to the Former Dynamos coach landing the top football job. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for starters is a broke organistion that has seen its property being attached week in week out. The country's football leaders cannot afford to hire a foreign coach, who obviously comes more expensive especially after thje Valinhos debacle. The country will need a local coach who is going to be working for national pride more than the monetary gains and with the pool of local coaches available and with the requisite experience and pedigree, Great Khali as is the history making coach referred is well ahead of the pack.

The empty football  coffers aside, the time available left to put a team together and effectively compete with a football powerhouse like the Elephants of Guinea, Southern Neighbours the Flames of Malawi and Swaziland's Sihlangu is so much limited and will require a caoach who allready knows the Zimbawean football terrain and is already aware of the majority of the players the country has at its disposal to represent the country and Pasuwa seems the natural choice.

Being the National U23 team also does give Pasuwa the advantage over any contenders. With the football mother body throwing around the Rebuilding mantra, it obviosly entails the majority if not all of the current U23 team constituting the Warriors team for the 2017 qualification marathon. With taht in mind, whoelse is suited to take charge than their current coach who has brought smiles to a football success starved nation for once buy putting the Young Warriors in contention for the Rio Olympics in 2016?

History tells us that the Warriors success has come under the guidance of a local coach with the nations' two qualifications to AFCON being registered under the guidance of a local coach. The Warriors coaching job is not for the faint hearted and the challenges that Pasuwa endured at Dynamos makes him conditioned for the battles and challenges associated with leading a national team that lacks the requisite support from a football leadership that is good at talking with little action.
