Manchester United will reclaim lost glory under LVG
By Evans Dakwa
A mere
glance at the headline of this piece will no doubt ignite a lot of debate among
soccer pundits and fans alike given the nature of inconsistency shown by the
Red Devils in the 2014/15 season. The once mighty Manchester United have shown
glimpses of recovery from the doom and gloom of the David Moyes era but not
enough to convince skeptics the team is capable of returning into the swansong
United that literally swept all in sundry.
The season
has not yet returned Old Trafford into a fortress where all teams across Europe
dared dreamt of wining with minnows like Swansea registering a league double
over the team from Manchester.
That being
said, there are enough signs within the team to suggest that Louis van Gaal’s
men will rediscover the form that made United feared football force across
Europe. The Dutchmen has managed to instill a certain level of confidence and
belief in his troops and with the time I have no doubt the team will come
right.
The
Philosophy as is van Gaal’s way of playing is widely called has taken time for
the players fully understand and implement quite well having being used to Sir
Alex Ferguson style for a very long time and the short lived Moyes era one.
Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney, Marcos Rojo and Angel Dimaria celebrate one of the three goals against Tottenham |
The Dutch man
has managed to turn the careers of a couple of players whom many where
clamouring for their heads. Many of the Red Devils fans could not understand
why Moyes paid 27 million pounds for Marouane Fellaini, the Belgian who paraded
a lot of disappointing outings last season. Under van Gaal, the man has been a totally transformed player with a couple of man of the match performances that
has silenced his critics. He has turned from the villain to the hero for the man
from Manchester and suddenly his absence in the Manchester united midfield has
become a cause for concern for its supporters.
The same can
be said of the likes of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and to some extent the
goalkeeper David Degea and Juan Mata. Very few people would have ever thought Young and
Valencia will be at Old Trafford this season or even deserved to be there. The
English man and the Ecuadorian have been among the top performers for United
albeit in totally different roles of being wing backs. Who would have thought
Young with his reputation of being a diver could flourish as a wing back, I
would like to believe it’s the confidence instilled by the manager that has
worked wonders with him.
Great teams
are known to have the knack of pulling good results even when they are not
playing well and many will agree United have been like that season. What will
happen when the team gels and start to play with that intensity as witnessed in
that match at Anfield against Liverpool week in week out. Good times indeed lie
ahead of the Red Devils and Louis van Gaal is and will be part of that
equation.
